This is one of Copenhagen's hidden gems. Located in a back alley, this is the oldest still functional hand made hard candy factory in the city (possibly the kingdom). Go have a look at the candy making process or browse in the quaint old school shop I've been using this store for Christmas presents for years

Have a lot of respect for places that stick to tradition and does not clamor for over expansion. Somods Bolcher is one of those places starting with their location which doesn't make sense from a retail perspective but they've made it work for over 150 years! They sell sugar but the hard candies aren't sweet. Ironic yes but I see them selling flavour and culture instead of sugar. Whether its rhubarb, the variety of licorice infused flavors, or the Danish flag in a candy, all are edible Danish culture. A must stop when in Copenhagen.
Expensive gourmet fancy candy but worth the trip when in Copenhagen. Service was pleasant and professional. We were in and out but would’ve stayed for the candy tour if we had more time!

Great candy shop. When we came to this shop, they were celebrating the 125 anniversary. It was fantastic to see how they made the candies on live!
Great place to pass by and shop few candies. If you are lucky you will see them make the candy, made in the traditional way. I can strongly recommend to anyone passing through Copenhagen, and it is never too crowded.
Love a lot of there candy and well visited even though the store is hidden from the street. Will go there again and they even have sugar free candy as well and they let you taste it before you buy;)
Sømods make the best hard candies I've ever had. There is a certain charm in this somewhat hidden pocket of olden days. This absolutely tiny shop hosts an array of classical and wonderful tastes, which have become regulars for people of many generations. Even so, the shop can have a slight cult status outside of the Copenhagen area. My personal recommendations go as follows: Silkeorme, stikkelsbær, rabarber, hostebolsjer, jule rocks The last one is Christmas specific - the best time of the year to visit Sømods.
