The museum has 3 permanent sections. Mostly oil paintings. Europe 1400-1800, Danish and Nordic art, French collection. Danish and Nordic gallery is ideal to examine the cultural and social structural transformation regarding the changes that took place between 1800-mid1900 area. French collection is a small.collection but is significant with some of picasso's and mattise' pieces.

One of the most enjoyable museum visits, and if you appreciate art in any capacity - you need to visit while in Copenhagen I got to enjoy this museums for a few hours this week and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of their exhibits. It was so nice to see works of at by Matisse, Picasso and Rembrandt in one place. Their whole section on modern art is simply amazing. Unfortunately I am neither an artist nor do I have enough of an intellectual capacity to truly understand great art, yet I found this place gratifying and it did enrich me in some way or the other. The staff are super friendly and they do have a cafe if you need a snack or some refreshments.
A brisk walk through splendid Østerbro Anlæg in autumn weather and I arrived to SMK, to be welcome by friendly staff and the grand foyer. Classic and contemporary art await to be showcased. I had a wonder day having a wander in museum
Must visit place to explore the art from different demography and period. Enjoyed the atmosphere and was fascinated by some surreal art work..
Amazing museum with amazing collection. Definitely recommended to visit.
Expect to be transported into other times, places, life stories, and all of this in one museum. Because that is what my experience was, absolutely wonderful, you walk from painting to painting, read the story and day dream about it. Surprisingly modern new section with interesting contemporary art, i feel it was definitely the money worth.
Great museum, with very large and airy spaces. The new wing with contemporary art is particularly interesting. Cafè has great views but not a great selection of food. I saw there are also guided tour for families which seemed nice. The only note is that they didn't tell me one of the main wings (on European paintings) was closed (maybe for renovation?) when I bought the ticket.
Great experience! The art are beautiful and organized for different ages. I would consider it as a must-go in Copenhagen. Their cafe is also beautiful! Strongly recommend anyone to go and visit!
