Absolutely stunning castle! I visited in fall of 2019 and the changing leafs on the grounds were magnificent. It is a bit of a walk from the train station, but there are sign that will lead you the right way. The town is also very charming and has some wonderful cafes. Definitely a must see if you are in Denmark!

It’s really pretty out in Hillerød, the castle is huge. It’s divided into two sections one about the castle, danish history etc and modern art. My favourite part about the castle is the garden outside!! There are mazes and Greek sculptures. It’s really pretty to sit there and watch the castle from afar.

One of the oldest and beautiful castles built in first decade of 17th century. The museum gives a glimpse of Danish history and culture. The baroque garden is very beautiful.

Amazing castle with an equally impressive collection of paintings and furniture. Richly decorated, the castle can easily compete for top three castles in Denmark. It is one of the 6 Danish royal castles and I would say a must when you're visiting Denmark. Near by is a large parking lot, but be aware that if you don't have a Danish debit card, only VISA and Mastercard are accepted for payment. I would also highly recommend the walk in the wonderful gardens behind the castle as well as the walk around the castle lake.

Nice castle, nice staff, nice garden - is it worth a half an hour drive from Copenhagen? Not sure. Unless you are very interested in Danish royalty. Interiors are fancy, but nothing like what you get to see as tourist in Europe only bigger and better... Price is OK, think of the fact that the restaurants in the area are something to avoid...

The castle is only an hour from by train from Copenhagen Central station. The place is really amazing . The town hillerod is a small town with cozy environment. The castle itself a great experience . The main structure is still intact. The rooms & the belongings from the royal family is still in a very good condition. The garden inside the castle is also breathtaking. Must see place in Denmark & easy day excursion from Copenhagen.

The Renaissance-style residence of King Christian IV of Denmark-Norway, now the Danish Museum of National History. Built in the early 17th century, the imposing Frederiksborg Castle stands on one of the three small islands in the Castle Lake at Hillerød, north of Copenhagen. The main building, the King’s Wing, is symmetrical, with a quadrangle at its center. However, the complex as a whole, which includes the Chapel Wing, Princess’s Wing, and Terrace Wing, is not symmetrical. Castle to museum. The buildings are primarily made of red brick, with sandstone decoration. They have steep roofs and gables in the Dutch Renaissance style but also feature several towers and spires, and a wealth of sculpted decorations celebrating the reign of King Christian IV (r.1588–1648). The castle was almost completely destroyed by a fire in 1859 but was reconstructed as nearly as possible to the original design, inside and out. Once completed, the castle was opened to the public as a museum in 1882.

It’s a very interesting museum, personally I loved all the medieval stuff and information. The building it’s just beautiful both inside and outside. If one visits Copenhagen and wants to see something outside of the city this museum is a really nice option.
